    Vital Approach to Transition: Slovene Multiple Case Study

    This paper uses a multiple case study to suggest the effectiveness in application of an integrated model for the design of sustainable change strategies in high velocity environments and organizations. The model integrates awareness of current organizational cultural characteristics with leadership intent and strategy formation. The cultural analysis provides a lens through which diverse organizational values are exposed and stakeholders can assess organizational alignment with the external environment, organizational mission and future vision. Using the inherent differentiation of values as creative tensions, strategies are formulated for purposeful change to improve alignment. Leadership inquiry is used to suggest an alignment of personal intent with the strategic initiatives to project sustainable change. This Values, Inquiry, and Tensions Alignment for Leadership model (VITAL) is applied as an intervention sequence which provides information, direction, and motivation for sustainable change in transition organizations and environments.

    Information Systems Strategic Alignment Maturity Levels: Corporate and Project Implementation Perspectives

    Deriving value from Information Systems (IS) investments has been a great concern in most organizations. IS strategic alignment also known as Business-IS alignment has been argued as one of the approaches of achieving IS investment value. Various researchers have proposed approaches to understanding the importance, achievement and maintenance of strategic alignment in organizations. This research used a strategic alignment assessment framework derived from Luftman’s Strategic Alignment Maturity Model (SAMM) to establish alignment maturity levels of public universities in Kenya. The approach adopted considers both Corporate (decision making) level and Project (IS implementation) level in evaluating strategic alignment maturity of an organization. Survey questionnaires were used in data collection and quantitative data analysis was employed. The study found out that the alignment maturity scores was higher at IS project implementation level as compared to corporate level. There was also consistency in alignment maturity scores ranking of factors in the two levels with communication and partnership scoring high at both levels while the human resource skills were ranked lowest at both levels.     A Model for Fine-Grained Alignment of Multilingual Texts

    While alignment of texts on the sentential level is often seen as being too coarse, and word alignment as being too fine-grained, bi- or multilingual texts which are aligned on a level in-between are a useful resource for many purposes. Starting from a number of examples of non-literal translations, which tend to make alignment difficult, we describe an alignment model which copes with these cases by explicitly coding them. The model is based on predicate-argument structures and thus covers the middle ground between sentence and word alignment. The model is currently used in a recently initiated project of a parallel English-German treebank (FuSe), which can in principle be extended with additional languages

    Spotify tailoring for promoting effectiveness in cross-functional autonomous squads

    Organisations tend to tailor agile methods to scale employed practices to have cross-functional autonomous teams while promoting sustainable creative and productive development at a constant pace. Thus, it is important to investigate how organisations tailor agile practices to get the balance right between teams' autonomy and alignment. Spotify model is originally introduced to facilitate the development of music streaming services in a very large-scale project with a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) model. However, developing a large-scale mission-critical project with a Business-to-Business (B2B) model is not essentially supported by the Spotify model. Thus, embracing Spotify model for such projects should be concerned about the question of how Spotify practices are adjusted to promote the effectiveness of cross-functional autonomous squads in a mission-critical project with B2B model? In this paper, we conduct a longitudinal embedded case study, which lasted 21 months during which 14 semi-structured interviews were conducted. The Grounded Theory (GT) is adopted to analyse the collected data. As a result, we identify practices and processes that promote effectiveness in cross-functional autonomous squads, which have never been discussed in terms of Spotify model before. We also present Spotify Tailoring by highlighting modified and newly introduced practices by the organisation in which the case study was conducted

    The impact of baryonic physics on the shape and radial alignment of substructures in cosmological dark matter haloes

    We use two simulations performed within the Constrained Local UniversE Simulation (CLUES) project to study both the shape and radial alignment of (the dark matter component of) subhaloes; one of the simulations is a dark matter only model while the other run includes all the relevant gas physics and star formation recipes. We find that the involvement of gas physics does not have a statistically significant effect on either property -- at least not for the most massive subhaloes considered in this study. However, we observe in both simulations including and excluding gasdynamics a (pronounced) evolution of the dark matter shapes of subhaloes as well as of the radial alignment signal since infall time. Further, this evolution is different when positioned in the central and outer regions of the host halo today; while subhaloes tend to become more aspherical in the central 50% of their host's virial radius, the radial alignment weakens in the central regime while strengthening in the outer parts.     Alignment Practices Affect Distances in Software Development: A Theory and a Model

    Coordinating a software project across distances is challenging. Even without geographical and time zone distances, other distances within a project can cause communication gaps. For example, organisational and cognitive distances between product owners and development-near roles such as developers and testers can lead to weak alignment of the software and the business requirements. Applying good software development practices, known to enhance alignment, can alleviate these challenges. We present a theoretical model called the Gap Model of how alignment practices affect different types of distances. This model has been inductively generated from empirical data. We also present an initial version of a theory based on this model that explains, at a general level, how practices affect communication within a project by impacting distances between people, activities and artefacts. The presented results provide a basis for further research and can be used by software organisations to improve on software practice
